HB104, the funding component of the Alaska Performance Scholarship Program, passed the House today on a unanimous vote and is on its way to the Senate for further action.
Eligible high school seniors who have completed rigorous curriculum in math, science, and language will be able to use the awards at an in-state post-secondary institution or vocational education school of their choice.
The proposed awards are as follows:
1) $4,755 for a 3.5 GPA or above
2) $3,566 for a 3.0 GPA or above
3) $2,378 for a 2.5 GPA or above
Additionally, the Alaska Advantage program will be expanded to make available needs based education grants to post-secondary students of all ages. Should HB104 pass this year the graduating class of 2011 will be the first students eligible for the Alaska Performance Scholarship.
