Summer Youth Sports Fish Program

by Cathy 26. May 2010 11:30

4-H Outdoor Skills/Sports Fish, Alaska Department of Fish & Game, and USFS Sports Fish are working together to present a summer youth sports fishing program for Juneau’s youth and families. This model will teach fishing skills to youth through example and hands-on experience. This is a great mentoring opportunity for adults and a chance to provide the youth in our community with a valuable and fun skill.

Each group will have two adults working with the youth and teaching them how to fish from the Juneau road system, Gastineau Channel, Twin Lakes and Dredge Lake system. All rods and reels will be provided by support agencies. 4-H is looking for more adult volunteers. Each volunteer will need to participate in training sessions that will provide liability training, teaching youth, safety, and various sports fishing skills.

If you are interested in participating I encourage you to contact Darren Snyder, UAF CES Youth Development Agent, at 907-796-6221 or darren.snyder@uaf.edu, for more information. Leadership training will begin on June 1.
